Mermaid Lake

A strange stillness hangs over the water, as if the lake itself is holding its breath. Rumor has it that the bottom is littered with the bodies of those who wandered in and never returned. Fishermen swear the surface sometimes ripples with cries for help, and the faint echo of footsteps underwater makes even the bravest pause before stepping too close.
